Customer reviewsExcellent for travelers
I bought 2 of these for a 14 day trip to Europe with my wife. The fist one I bought in an Eddie Bauer store for her, then a week later I ordered one for me from Amazon. Paris, Brussels, Vienna, Salzburg, London, and everything in between. We stuffed them to the max to avoid extra bag fees. Not a single complaint from us. We beat these bags up and no quality defects. Trip was 5 months ago, use them regularly, still look like new. As far as the outer pocket filling with water if it rains- its just a quick access pocket like the water bottle pockets on each side. It has stretch mesh sides that should drain. I ve never seen this type of outer pocket have a zip top. It sort of defeats the purpose of expandable quick access. I suppose one could easily install a drain hole grommet at the bottom if this ever becomes an issue. Most people carry a rain fly super cheap add-on for hiking in bad weather. I am a hiker, and married father of 5 kids ages 15-25. I ve bought a ton of backpacks. The fact that I m going out of my way to post this review 6 months after purchase, unsolicited, should be evidence that this pack is worth the money. You can see the pack on my back in picture from Brugge. Wonderful place btw.
