The clip blade is one of the most common blade types that is used as a multi-purpose blade and is preferred for its versatility. The clip point blade lends itself to a quicker stabbing advantage when puncturing game due to its sharp tip, but has a narrow and comparatively weaker tip than a drop point blade.
The gut hook feature on this leather hunter allows outdoor enthusiasts, guides and professional hunters to easily cut underneath the skin of game and is used for field dressings.
The drop point blade on this leather hunter slopes from the handle of the knife to the tip of the blade allowing for ease of use when gutting large animals. A drop point blade has a thicker and stronger spine near the tip that allows for more control when cutting.
The skinner blade on this leather hunter is used primarily for skinning purposes to cleanly and efficiently remove the hide of big-game animal. The polished leather handle allows for a secure grip and has a relatively short, thin, and curved blade to keep the tip from puncturing the hide or spearing the meat.
Tru-Sharp Stainless Steel SS is a special high-carbon steel that helps the blades hold an edge. It also offers extraordinary blade strength and corrosion resistance.
Chrome Vanadium CV blades are known for their edge-holding ability and easy re-sharpening. However, they are less resistant to rusting, pitting and discoloration than stainless steel. We recommend keeping a thin film of oil on the blade to maintain the finish.
Blades are honed at an inclusive angle of 35 – 45 from the factory. Maintaining a constant angle, hold the blade 17 – 22 from the surface of a sharpening stone and stroke the blade as if shaving a thin layer from the stone. Repeat the stroking motion along the entire edge of the blade starting at the blade heel and working to the tip. Turn the blade over and repeat the process.
Using a small drop of oil, wipe down the joints, blades, and handles. The inside of knife can be cleaned with cotton-tipped swabs and wooden tooth picks. To remove any adhesive tape on your knife, apply nail polish remover or lighter fluid to a soft cloth to easily remove the residue. Rusting may occur to older knives. Rust spots on older knives should be oiled well and the knife should be allowed to sit for a few days. Carefully, scrape away the rust spot with the tip of a sharp, stiff knife.
Case Honing Oil.
This honing oil is made especially for re-sharpening knives. The main features of this honing oil are 1 protect the sharpening stone, 2 carry away debris, and 3 produce a keen edge on a metal blade such as a knife.
The Large Skinner Leather Hunter is a part of Case s Leather Hunters family. This handsome yet rugged collection is designed to stand up to years of outdoor use. The skinner blade is commonly used for skinning purposes or field dressing, making it a must have knife for a huntsman. It also offers extraordinary blade strength and corrosion resistance. Comes with a genuine leather sheath to protect and store the knife. Customer reviewsTraditional and High Quality
I received this as a Christmas gift from my wife, and it is a beautiful piece. I have taken it hunting but not had the opportunity to use it on game yet, but I think it will excel at this purpose.
